My neighbors recently moved and left their dog. I lived next door to these people for about 6 months and this dog was left tied to a shade tree with a small dog house during that time. I never saw anyone interacting with him, but did see a small indoor dog several times. When they moved out, they took the outdoor dog but dropped him off later. When he was dropped off, he was not tied back up and a cold front was coming in. After speaking with the landlord and learning that he had no plans to do anything with the dog, I decided to try to catch him.
He took 2 steps and shut down when my SO put a leash on him. He cowered when I put a collar on him, cowered when we tried to pet him. I took him to the vet the following morning where they did a fecal, tested for heart worms, etc...he did great with the staff. He had intestinal parasites, was heart worm positive and under weight at 33.4 lbs. Each of his ribs were visible and some of his vertebrae as well. He's on heart worm prevention (Trifexis) now and I'm trying to raise money via GoFundMe for his heart worm treatment.
In just 2 weeks, he's become very playful! He loves to play with my female Sharpull Terrier and chewing on just about anything. I think that he likely has some Pit and JRT. I named him Repo.
