Hi Everyone,
I'm new so just a quick intro. I got my first APBT about five years ago. I went to the local shelter to pick up a female bully for the local rescue and take her to the foster home. When I got there they told me she had been adopted but they had a male that needed to get out or he was going to be put down that night. Sooooooo I asked to see him, knowing the foster home couldn't take a male. He climbed into my lap, licked my face and I was history. I took him home to foster him until a home could be found. Like I said, that was five years ago. His name is Jimmy, short for Jiminy Cricket. He is a great dog and instantly got along with my pit mix and my cat. What could I do? I am a dog trainer, have my own training business and I've got to say he is the easiest dog I have ever owned. He has his CGC and is a certified therapy dog. I also sometimes take him along to clients with dogs who are uncomfortable, fearful or aggressive towards other dogs (when I feel he will be safe). He has taught me so much. He is completely non-reactive around dogs who are aggressive to him. He just looks up at me and won't approach the other dog. He is amazing! We also do weight pulling and agility. He even gets along with wildlife in my backyard (found out by accident). I have seen him playing with squirrels, chipmunks, raccoons and even birds. They run around, chase each other and bat at each other. When he catches up to a squirrel or chipmunk in the yard he ties himself in knots trying not to step on it. I even saw him playing with a goldfinch in the yard. It was hopping around and he was pushing it with his nose. I went running outside thinking the poor thing was injured and it flew up into the trees. Sure enough, when I went back inside the bird flew back down and started playing with Jimmy again. I couldn't believe it. He apparently never got the pit bull memo, or even the terrier memo. Heck, I'm not even sure he got the dog memo. As I'm sure you can guess, I am extremely protective of him. I never let him near a dog I don't know and trust. I am so glad I found this group to be a part of. Looking forward to lots of information, activities and stories.
