HELP! Behavioral changes in an INSTANT!

dimanche 16 novembre 2014

My boyfriend's family has an american pit bull. It took him nine months to be around me without barking and trying to attack me. We share the same home and we were getting along great up until about a month ago. I walked in the house after getting home from school and he jumped on me and started growling. I began talking to him but he jumped up again and tried to bite my face. Everyone ran to grab him and suggested I stay away from him for a bit. Later that evening he was accidentally let into our room, he saw me and put his head down and started walking towards me. He growled and backed me into a corner, I know I probably shouldn't have let him do that but I have never dealt with him in this type of situation and I don't know much about them. After he backed me into the corner he launched at me and growled, this time he got a hold of my arm and bit me. They were very deep bites and my arm started pouring blood. I also had scratches and bruises on my legs where he tried to dig his claws into them.

We thought that maybe it had something to do with the bone he was eating because it made him agressive towards the other dog. So we got rid of that.

I didn't want to hide in my room whenever he was out so I tried everything I could to get us back to our normal relationship. He is the family dog and they have had him since he was a puppy, and I didn't want them to feel as if they had to give him away. So I fed him treats, let him smell my hands, I quit using fragrances (I just got some new ones,) stopped using scented soaps, and tried to bring him treats when I walked in the door. This has not helped. He started having his good and bad days with me, but then the day would split up. It would be a good day and end bad, or a bad day and end good.

The thing is, he doesn't act that way towards the family it's just me.

Today started off good until I walked back into the door and he started growling. I stepped outside and walked back in and called his name and he let me pet him. I pet him like I always do, and he looked as if he was fine, and then he growled again. This time he jumped up and tried to bite and I grabbed his collar. A girl beside me tried to hold him back and he barely missed her face, it took two people to get a hold of him. He bit my arm but this time it didn't break the skin, just a bruise.

I'm desperate for any advice or tips on what to do. I'm not sure how to handle pits because I never have. I'm tired of being locked in my room in fear of what happens if I come out. I don't want to be scared to come home everyday, and the complete change in behavior is making my fear grow. I don't know what to do anymore! Please help me!
