I have raised a few dogs but never a pit bull. We adopted Max at 3 1/2 months, because his owner was frustrated and didn't want him. He had not been socialized, so we made that a priority. While he was shy about meeting other dogs, and uncertain about people, in one month he has become very confident in both areas. I should say that we also have a Lab and a Queensland mix, who are females and older, so he has a pack life and has adapted to it nicely.
He keeps us active, requiring 2 long, off leash walks every day. I also take him out on a pinch collar to leash train every day. On a regular basis he gets to play with young male dogs for lots of rough and tumble time. We have a doggie door, which he uses freely but so far is not reliably house broken--although he is having less accidents. He is a sweetheart--very loving and exuberant.
He developed a rash on his inner neck last week and I $#@!umed it was his collar, which is nylon. I have ordered one made of hemp that should come any day now. For now, we keep him collar free as much as possible and Desitin seems to help the rash.
