Puppy pooping in crate

jeudi 20 novembre 2014

Ok, I've had Casper for almost 9 weeks now. He's 4 months old. He's been such a good puppy and has proved to be very trainable and smart. The last three days though I've woken up to poop in his crate. This is not normal for him at all. These past three days are the first times he's ever had an accident overnight. I let him out right before going to bed, around 1130pm and I'm up with my kids around 7ish so he's not in his crate for more than 7 1/2 hours. The first night it happened he did have diarrhea so I didn't think too much of it. Second night his stool was soft but normal for him, same as lastnight. The only reasons I can think of for him doing this is how cold it is outside. Yesterday it didn't get above freezing. Could he be holding his poop and then not be able to make it though the night? The other thing I thought it might be is that his crate was too large for him. I bought a large sized crate a few weeks ago since he outgrew his original one and he hasn't had any issue with it. It came with a divider so I made the area inside the crate just big enough for his bed, thinking he wouldn't want to mess where he's sleeping....well that didn't work either. I also tried feeding him a lot earlier in the night yesterday hoping that would help....obviously it did not. He gets 3 cups a day of Earth's pride grain free duck and veggie formula spread out into three feedings. I didn't think I was feeding him too much, but am I? Anyway, any ideas to curb this would be fantastic. I can set an alarm to wake me in the middle of the night if I have to. I just really, really don't want him getting used to pooping in his crate. Help!!!
