At my wit's end with itchyness

jeudi 26 mars 2015

Albert is itchy all the time. The focus of the itchyness seems to travel around his body, escaping every effort I make. He came to us itchy on grain free Merrick kibble, we were told he did better on chicken free. He had yeasty and periodically infected ears in his foster home, and had horribly stained feet from "constant licking ". He has now been on raw, mostly prey model, but I am so desperate that I am using every BARF recommendation for skin too because I am as open minded as could be right now. He was covered in hives when I tried raw chicken, so no chicken of any kind now, he gets a very expensive duck egg every other day. He gets a teaspoon of unrefined coconut oil to eat daily and I also rub it on his worst spots, and all over after his weekly prescription antimicrobial bath to prevent dryness from all the washing. The itch is like a sneaky gremlin. We get his belly under control and he stops tearing it apart and I have 8 hours of peace and then he starts freaking out on his anus. This week, everything seemed better and then he started eating his poor feet again, he chewed so hard last night that he tore his pad and is limping now. We have been to the vet SIX times in less than 4 months and she is stumped. She thinks we are dealing with an allergy so generalized (dust) that there is no real answer. He also gets daily Zyrtec per the vet, a probiotic and flax seed oil.

I am ready to pay the 800 plus for prick tests for all allergens, but they will most likely show that he is simply allergic to life. I am looking for any other things I can add to his life to alleviate symptoms. Thanks!
