Veterinary student stitches “I love you” on canine patient — to impress his girlfrien

Back in form-excellent night at AKC class!

Last week I was all bummed out because my normally star of the cl$#@! (yes, I am completely objective :grin:) acted like an idiot in cl$#@!. Well, I worked with him just about every day this week while out on our morning walk so he could practice with more distractions. I am please to say he was "my" little star in cl$#@! last night! This morning we took a vacation day as a reward and just had a nice walk around the park instead of walking in our neighborhood. We spent the morning sniffing and having some freedom to be a pup! It was the first sunny morning we've had in several days, so we really both enjoyed it a lot.

Split nail?

My dog started limping today I freaked out! So I lated him down started putting pressure on the leg he was limping on he has no reaction I did range of motion still no reaction so I finally I looked at his nails one looked split no bleeding or nothing but then I got a reaction from him so I know it must hurt never dealt with this before should I take him to a vet or cut them myself? Will he need surgery? About how much in dl will this cost? Help!

After Hurricane Sandy, HSUS Spent $10,000 on Photography

The conduct of the Humane Society of the United States following Hurricane Sandy could be called unscrupulous—and that’s putting it lightly. HSUS raised over $2 million around the storm, but spent only one-third of that on Sandy relief. We know thanks to the New York Attorney General holding charities’ feet to the fire and requiring them to make public accounting of how they raised and spent money.

Thanks to the results of an open-records request, we now know even more about HSUS’s conduct after the disaster.

First, HSUS lays out how it spent money. Among its “relief” spending? Over $10,000 in professional photographer*fees. That’s a lot of money spent simply taking photos. If a photographer costs $1,000 a day (a reasonable estimate), then that’s two weeks of photography. HSUS also shot a lot of video if you watched any of its follow-up marketing pieces, but that was apparently classified as staff time.

Perhaps that’s no surprise. HSUS CEO Wayne Pacelle went up to the disaster area, and you can bet that he wanted every last shot of him hauling a pet carrier. After all, here’s a $400,000-a-year CEO who thinks so highly of himself that he went on a 100-city book tour for his first book. (Reportedly, he has another in the works.)

Second, HSUS tries to preempt criticism that it only spent one-third of the money it raised on Sandy relief by stating that it raised money for its disaster relief team generally but doesn’t raise money for specific incidents. HSUS says if donors earmarked the money themselves specifically for Sandy relief, then that was honored. Otherwise, the money went into a big pot for future “disaster relief” (and future photography).

But here’s the catch: HSUS then says it didn’t allow online donors the option of earmarking their donation for Hurricane Sandy.

There’s a word for that: Sleazy. And that word describes a lot of things about a group that recently settled a federal racketeering lawsuit, had its charity rating pulled by Charity Navigator, and is under investigation by a state attorney general.

You are not allowed to enter a dog in the monthly contests until you have made at least 50 posts and have been registered for 30 days or more.



If your dog wins a monthly contest the same picture can not be used again. The same dog can be entered in later contests, but it must be a different picture. Otherwise you may submit the same picture of a given dog each month until it wins.



If you post a picture that violates these rules, it will be subject to immediate removal and will require resubmission, conforming to these rules, to be included in the contest.

About Contest:



There will be a monthly contest held for the best picture of a male dog owned by a member of pitbull-chat.com. Submissions will be of a male dog 12 months of age and older, of any breed and posed in any way. They CAN NOT be wearing any costumes, hats, etc. with the exception of any type of service/working vests, and any type of harness. Besides those exceptions the dog can only be wearing a collar as to not conflict with our “themed” photo contest. The contest will be judged on the quality/creativity of the picture, and the overall health state and look of the dog.



Every picture that is submitted and falls within the above rules will be eligible to be voted on as a winner.



You will have 2 weeks to submit your pictures.


Nominations will be opened for 1 week to pick the top 10 candidates. If there are less than 10 entries in the first 2 weeks, additional submitting will be allowed for the 3rd week until 10 entries are submitted. Members submitting a nomination post must list ten dogs in order for their nomination to be eligible!



A poll will be set up for the 4th week along with the top 10 pictures and voting will continue through the end of the month.



The winner will be announced the first week of the following month.



If, in a contest, there is a tie between two or more dogs, there will be a 24 hour tie-breaker voted on by members. If there is still a tie, there will be an additional 24 hour tie-breaker voted on by staff members, and if a decision still can not be made, the first available administrator will decide the winner.



Each entry should name the owner (their pitbull-chat.com screen name) the dog’s name and age. For example, a reply should read…
