CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -Two suspects hopped a fence in Cicero Tuesday night and stole three American bulldogs, stuffing them in the trunk of a white sedan.
Initially they were scared off by the dogs, but seconds later they befriended the pooches, which is when they made their move and stole them.
Now, imagine how the dogs' owner 12-year-old Ariadne Gonzalez felt when she saw the surveillance video.
They were really like part of the family for us. We really cared for them, we really loved them a lot, said Gonzalez in an interview with FOX 32's Tisha Lewis.
Yeah, this is where they jumped and they just pushed and threw them, it was really sad just watching that video, said Gonzalez.
The two crooks were captured on a home surveillance system. The family purchased it when they moved to the Cicero neighborhood a year ago after realizing an abandoned house sits next door.
I didn't really know what to do but cry. I just really miss them a lot, said Gonzalez.
Two-week-old Daisy, one-month-old Peligro and four-month-old Romeo were all Christmas gifts.
Some people know that they're pretty expensive dogs so I'm guessing that how they figured why to get them, said Jose Pena, Ariadne's uncle.
Family members fear the dogs could pop up for sale somewhere online.
Cicero police said they have detectives on the case, but the family is turning to Facebook for help.
Their post about what happened has more than 17,000 views and has been shared nearly 2,000 times.
It all helps.
I just wish that people would help us try to find them because I really miss them and they're like family to us, said Gonzalez.
