introducing 7 month old (today!) Otis!

mardi 11 novembre 2014

Hey everyone, my name is Jason, my girlfriend Nikki, and her her son Cody FINALLY got a beautiful baby blue nose with I believe is a "black brindle"...whatever he officially is, he has a GORGEOUS coat and an even better personality :).

We got him back in July, hes actually 7 months old to the DAY! Hes getting BIG FAST. We have been feeding him, what I consider to be pretty dang well. Hes atleast 40 if not 45 lbs at 7 months, and we are really wondering how big he will end up? if we feed and exercise him properly of corse.

I owned a Boxer growing up, and hes definitely a stronger breed of dog! Not only is he our first pit but hes also our first dog together, and we couldn't be happier! We love him like hes our child. I had a short babysit at work with a female red nose for about 6 weeks, I got to know her fast, and its amazing how many of the same traits and habits our dog has. I was very surprised! The TRUE traits of this lovely breed are def. true!

First off, the old fear of pit bull thing is ABSURD to the 10th degree! Hes been with us since he was 3 months old, and we had him fixed weeks later. Didn't skip a BEAT. What STRONG Dogs these pups are, its amazing. Im 6ft. 215 plus lbs, Im a big boy...and at juuust barely half a year old, we are having alittle trouble with the pulling. He will pull until hes upright walking on 2 legs! lol he is a little NUT, but he is a good boy most of the time. Honestly I think sometimes he gets alittle frusturated because you can tell he wants nothing to do but run around outside non stop, and we also live in a smaller town house, so hes already getting cramped, I KNOW that we will have to be very proactive starting now (we have been) with keeping him exercised daily. He has been very good the couple of times we have gotten him to the dog park. We have him out on a 30 foot run out in the yard and Im doing my best to make sure he gets out some of this ENERGY!

He is fully house broken, and has been since 3-4 months. He is extremely smart, but listens when he wants, selective hearing...stubborn, but you know he hears and understands EVERYTHING! We have a kennel for him big enough to fit 4 of him. He will never need another one! he only goes in there over night or while we eat, because he cant be trusted alone, as he gets spiteful and ruins each of our favorite things depending on who left him downstairs lol. but this is puppies, not an all the time thing. Weird how he knows JUST what to chew up for each of us if we leave him for more than a few minutes. Nikki is a stay at home mom so she's always with Otis.

He is teething BIG TIME. He has megaladon sized molars and german shepard sized k9s. extremely strong jaw and bite, ALWAYS needs to be chewing on the TOUGHEST toys, or else our hands, ends of our shirt sleeves and pant legs gettin it! I can tell hes teething so hard, he just cant help it. tore up nice dog beds, started w digging them...chewed thru KONG brand leashes and harnesses and collars like they were a wet paper bag, and this was months ago. recently I got him this nice TUFF leather collar which he will wear his whole life, hope so anyway. What we REALLY need is a TOUGH leather harness made for these dogs. Can anyone PLEASE recommend one to us? Dont need spikes or need to make him look like the terminator...already trying hard not to scare the neighbors with his ALREADY intimidating look, and bark and demeanor...but they mostly all know hes nothing but a big excited sweetheart inside! Just in the market for a GOOD STRONG LIFE LONG well built leather and maybe chain harness.

He loves to play, loves to box and try to dominate me, but I never let him, he knows whos boss. But ill tell ya, if I play w him sitting on the floor or slumping on the couch, he will try and kind of man up and press up on me and rise above me like he owns me lol...then the hand chewing war commences...but his toys helps all of us!

Hes been my favorite, most loving, loyal, affectionate and everything else dog I have ever had the pleasure of owning. My GF Nikki feels the same way. Every night he falls asleep in my lap, he HAS to be curled up all over me or my girl lol, he gets SUPER jealous if we kiss or hug for too long, hes gotta BUTT IN HARD and start giving both of us licks to the face frantically and lay IN BETWEEN US...hes a friggin brat.

The only thing we are having a little problem with is him trying to dominate our 7 yr old boy, honestly Cody DOES NOT HELP in this matter! So its not all Otis' fault, but he wont stop PLAY attacking him, but sometimes its too much, and hes a bit of a bully at times...but thats what makes my boy my boy! but I really need both Cody, and Otis to cool it. I think because hes the smallest in the house, hes ALWAYS getting messed with...but again every time he approaches the dog its in a loud fast giggly playful manner, so Otis dominates him, mostly tries to nibble, latch onto shirt sleeves, just get alittle too rough.

all in all hes amazing. Please let me know what you think. He had 2 well treated healthy BIG pit parents who we saw, not a fighter or anything. big bully looking tuff guy SWEETHEART on the inside!

**Hes a TIRED boy in these pics, plus hes never still...Ill get better ones tomorrow! Hope you guys like him. I dont know pits like you guys do, how does he look on a scale from 1-10 honestly? just curious. I think hes gorgeous, with a more unique coloration?

First time on a dog forum and I am so grateful to own such an amazing species of dog, inside and out.

thanks everyone!:)**
