My Morris bit the Vet Nurse...Please Help

samedi 8 novembre 2014

Hello Community,

I am torn this morning and I hope that you can help me.

I have had Morris, since he was 6 weeks old, he's 5yrs old now. Last night, my boyfriend took him to the vet, as he has done before, and I received a call that Morris bit the vet nurse on the lip and they refused further treatment for him. I am so hurt, because my conscious is telling me that I will have to get rid of my dog.

He has never bit anyone before. My boyfriend said the nurse was "loving" Morris and he was excessively licking her in the face, then suddenly, just bit her. Not in a viciously attacking way (I suppose..because we know if he wanted to, he could have ripped her apart) but enough to draw blood and have a paramedic called. I have always said, if he bites someone, he has to go. But IS THERE ANOTHER SOLUTION?

I have a 9 yr old son, and part of me is feeling like a irresponsible parent if I keep him, because at this point he's unpredictable. The other part is just plain sad. And I wish I had been there at the vet visit...maybe it wouldn't have happened. I like to consider myself a responsible person, and I would be mortified if he bit someone in the future, worse, after I knowingly kept him after this.

I've told my family about it and they keep saying "Morris is a good dog, I'm so shocked..but why would she let him continue licking her face like that? Why wouldn't she muzzle him, just because?"

I cannot imagine him at a "no kill" shelter, without his bed, yard to run around in, etc. Part of me feels like I've failed him as an owner...any advice is welcomed.
