My boyfriend got his dog as a puppy. Being a young 20 something dealing with untreated bi-polar disorder and not a lot of past pet experince at the time, I can only imagine how much of a disaster it was with these two before I came around. He's ashamed to admit it and no longer behaves this way with rocky but his training methods were not the nicest... He was heavy handed with rocky when he was younger. he didn't know how else to train or reprimand his dog other than hitting. I guess someone knocked some sense into him though because he says it's been years since he hit rocky and knows I'd leave if he ever did again. With that being said, the way rocky was raised has created such a tough, stubborn ahole of a dog and it didn't help that my boyfriend used to travel and leave him home alone all the time. So here I am living w this dog for the last 5 months and hating it which is extreme because I'm a major animal lover... Rocky is actually what brought my bf and I together..
he pees on EVERYTHING. I mean everything in the house has been peed on literally but no one ever sees him do it. I've caught him smelling my laundry and peeing on it twice, that's the only time he's ever been caught, he doesn't poop in the house and he asks to go outside when he wants to so I don't get why or how he pees on everything all the time. He's also kenneled or outside if we are not home so it's not like he's doing it when we are gone. how can i start correcting this behavior if he's never caught in the act
he sleeps on the bed at night and he takes up too much room but you try to move him or ask him to get down he's right back up 5 seconds later pawing at you until you lift up the blanket for him to go under, he's presistant no matter how many times you tell him no or to get down he will just keep at it and eventually out stubborn you and in the middle of the night when he ends up laying on me and I push him off, he growls! He's annoying and has a bad attitude
my biggest concern is his behavior with other dogs. I'd really like to bring my 6 year old neutered Aussie home to live with us but I'm afraid their dominant personalities will clash and my dog would lose the fight. Last year my bf rescued a puppy, rocky loves him and they are now the same size but Rocky is extremely pushy and has no respect for other dogs boundaries. The two of them are constantly trying to hump each other as well and constantly getting into small fights about it. I mean CONSTANTLY. The fights are short, like seconds long and I never have to intervene, they always walk away from eachother or go back to playing but if Rocky tried that with my Aussie, I don't think my Aussie would tolerate it and I think the fight would be more serious. The one time I introduced Rocky and my Aussie my Aussie tried ignoring Rocky but Rocky was being very invasive, for 20 min straight he would not leave my Aussie Gus alone, he was on his side wherever he went and constantly smelling him. Gus really didn't appreciTe it and they growled at eachother twice
A a few other behaviors I cannot stand. When he wants something, anything, he will just follow you around and bark at you and he won't quit till he gets what he wants/needs. The only thing that kinda works to make him stop barking is a spray bottle. He also drinks from the toilet and drinks my bfs three year olds pee from his potty. The kid is starting to go on his own so I don't always catch the pee in the potty right away....but Rocky does.
where do I start with this dog. Not only do I feel like I can't have my dog but I can't have my bird either because he won't leave the cage alone, I can't have cats because he goes after them, I wanted chickens this spring but I don't think that's going to work with Rocky around either... Not to mention I am so tired of everything having pee on it!!!!!! He's a terror.
*** please don't mention neutering him as a solution. He will be getting neutered soon but for health concerns and breeding concerns ( I don't want a bunch of little rockys in the world) he's five years old, neutering him this late in the game will not correct his behaviors.
