Im saving money to get my CPL and my first pistol right now. I live in Michigan, so I dont have a duty to retreat. But, I never thought of my dog. $#@!uming my dog does a half way decent job of alerting me of an intruder, what if the burglar pulls a knife him to shut him up and starts pressing forward; do I have the legal right to defend my dog? What if he starts kicking him (no weapon) repeatedly and my dog cant run away for whatever reason? I dont like to think about it, but I want to be prepared. To me, If i believe someone is going to kill my dog (ESPECIALLY if hes already trespassing) I should have the right to stop him with however much force I deem fit. My dog is just like my family, and I will protect my family.
What if Im walking my dog and he gets attacked from another dog. Do I have the right to use deadly force on the stray dog if i believe its going to harm/kill mine?
I searched and could only find one other post about this. Some people were saying that, depending on the state, dogs are considered property, and you cant shoot someone over property.
