I have a 14 month old female pitbull she was the last one left on a local site when i picked her up at 8 weeks old. She was only 7.5 lbs at 8 weeks. I brought her home got her healthy. We have two other dogs in the household a male husky mix who is the same age that she has been around since 8 weeks. Also a 4 year old female pitbull who belongs to my father in law.
My pit daisy was somewhat skittish at first. She got along fairly well growing up. The other dogs were a good bit bigger than her up to about 6 months. Then she by passed the 4 year old (lily) in size. When they were young they would all play and wrestle like puppies do. But never tie up and fight. She was a little food aggressive at first but both puppies were and they were broke of that. I got her fixed at 6 months. The other female lily was also fixed when she was a puppy. the male mix is not neutered. Daisy is the very cautious type of dog but from day 1 of having her I took her with me EVERYWHERE. She was great around other dogs and kids!! She loved to play and be around people.
About December when she turned a year, Lily had not been feeling to great since she was super cranky. One evening they were all eating and lily jumped on Daisy and they tied up. Lily growling and mouthing with her as daisy yipped and squealed. They didn't draw blood or anything like that but it was hard for me to get them apart and calmed down by my self.
This has happened a few times over the past few months. NOW they will also fight over the couch when my father in law is home from time to time. Here lately when they eat daisy will growl if lily gets too close. It is like they are all of a sudden testing one another. Where as Daisy has been submissive to both the other dogs in the past. When either of them are one on one with The husky mix they are fine. But lily and daisy or all 3 and there will usually be a brawl between the girls.
Yesterday I came home and They all came to me once I got in the gate I pet each of them. When I turned to pet lily, daisy put her head down pinned back her ears and lunged snarling at lily. I grabbed her and put her in the house she was throwing a fit the whole time! Lily followed and wanted to jump on her while i was holding her but she followed my verbal commands and did not. Once I got daisy calmed down on the couch, I tried to get her to scoot over, I was going to see how she did with lily in the house. I tried to scoot her and she pinned her ears back and was griping at me but i made her scoot and then she acted like she wanted down but i pet her and told her to stay. She leveled out and laid still. I then called lily in and she came in with her head down ears back and as soon as daisy saw her she made that expression and growled. I told her were were not going to do this and she was going to behave. It was like she was just staring lily down daring her to come closer!!!!!! These two got along fine for the first 9 months I had her! So now it is so frustrating so see them acting like this?! We don't kennel them they all 3 run and play outside on a fenced in acre and a half. Most of the time while I am away they usually get along when they are outside and my mother in law is home.
In the evening times, seems to be when all the issues occur. None of the Dogs have ever bit anyone which is good. But they all three are territorial of the yard. After the issue when I came home yesterday I made them all sit off the porch and stay off until I filled up the 3 food bowls. Which are all apart on the porch. They all stayed except for daisy, she kept trying to get on the porch and I would run her off and tell her to sit. once they were all calm I told them all 3 to come eat. They all came on the porch, Daisy got her a bowl and started inhaling her food and the other two shared another food bowl and eat apart. My brother in law let lily go inside when she did daisy hovered down over her bowl and growled. I took it away and made her lay still for about 10 minutes. I then returned the food when she was calm and she began to eat again. After the male finished he walked over to daisy which usually doesn't bother her but this time she was growling again! Since she had ate a good bit like she usually does I put the food bowl up for the night.
Last night, I made daisy sleep with me until about 2 am when I let her out when she came in she went to the couch and curled up and went to sleep. And this morning when I was getting ready for work I put her in the bedroom with me and tried to get her to eat. She ate some and laid down refusing to eat any more. So I put her outside and put the bowl up (mom and my bro in law were to feed the other two when they got up).
So, I am at a loss as to what the best thing for me to do is. She went from my sweet well behaved girl to this little territorial brat!!!!! I am so upset with myself. I don't know what I need to do to fix the issue!
If anyone has tips or ideas please feel free to fill me in!! I have owned shepherds and a shi tzu but never a pit bull. My fiance had a lot of rescues and pit bulls and rottweilers growing up. This is the first time in their experience that they have had a more serious issue with two of the dogs acting out.
