Well, tomorrow will be Adonis' first unplanned away from home vet visit đ§
A little background to how this happened is in order. Adonis and crates don't seem to get along. His separation anxiety only gets worse when he's in his crate. If I'm home, he loves the thing and will go inside no problem. If I leave the room, just the room not even the house, he freaks out and goes on a cage rattling rampage, usually escaping and hurting himself in the process. If I don't put him in his crate he waits patiently on my bed for me to come back. I don't like leaving him loose to run amok so that left me with quite a dilemma, crate him and risk him cutting his face open or leave him loose? I chose neither, I bought a strong tether and attached it to the leg of his bed/couch at a position where he couldn't get hung up on anything and could reach his water and nothing else. He was doing great on it and we hadn't had any problems until today. I got through two of my cl$#@! and came home to shower him with love and take him on a potty break only to see that the tether was somehow no longer on the leg of his bed. It was probably a human error because there's no way he worked it free on his own. He had gotten into my trash can and apparently found delight in everything...including a battery. He didn't eat it, he just bit into and apparently realized his mistake pretty quickly leaving it alone on my floor. It was an old battery so I don't think there was much juice in it but what little there was did some damage. I guess it's just now taking an effect because he seemed fine until around 30 minutes ago. I honestly thought that since since the battery was old and he didn't look injured that he was okay, I was definitely wrong. He was asleep in my bed and I accidentally woke him up and when he lifted his head I noticed a huge drool puddle on my comforter as well as the longest string of drool I've ever seen hanging from his lip. I grabbed a towel to wipe it off because he didn't seem all there and that's when I noticed the black stuff coming off on the towel. So I've been flushing his mouth with water and now there isn't any stuff coming off on the towel. I've been looking to see what vet I'm taking him to tomorrow and I probably won't go to cl$#@! in the morning so I can keep an eye on him until I can get him there.
I'm so aggravated with myself right now. Whether I saw anything when I checked the first time or not I should've gone ahead and got him to the vet. He ate fine and was his normal goofy self so I thought he was okay. I'm not really looking for any help with anything at the moment, I just felt like sharing my mistake with you guys. I'm just worried that I really $#@!ed up this time, he's gotten into crap before but nothing that's ever hurt him before. I think he's in a bit of pain (well duh) and I'm trying to make him comfortable but he doesn't want to hang out with me at the moment, he's a little upset about me flushing his mouth.
Quick question, should I continue flushing his mouth throughout the night? I don't mind staying up all night with him but I think he's gonna get tired of me looking in his mouth every 10 minutes if I do.
