Just brought home Whirlwind from Stray Rescue. She seems like a sweetie and was a favorite at the shelter. Five different trainers came out to say goodbye!
We took her around the property inside and out and she seemed to settle in okay; no spraying, no excessive shyness to noises, etc.
She did get a little aggressive while I was petting her with some rough mouthing that seemed to escalate in force as we tried to dissuade her telling her "no." I'm not sure that's the best thing; perhaps we'd have done better by ignoring her and turning away?
We took her out for a walk right after to expend some pent up energy/anxiety at being in a new home; then crated her with a treat when she came back and; she's been fine ever since. She's out now and tearing up a nylon bone.
She's already barked and investigated a noise outside, which is great since we need her guarding instincts. Advice appreciated. This is our first pit and first dog we've had in 15 years. Have spent a lot of time before getting this dog reading books on training and reviewing different theories. I know that there is some controversy regarding Dog Whisperer (Cesar Milan) methods, but certain breeds really seem to be aware of their alpha/non-alpha status and I think pitties seem to fall into this category (yes, I know pits aren't considered a breed).
Would love advice on books to read or good websites. Not crazy about watching videos.

New Dog! She's five years old and has some issues but is very lovable.
