It Won't Happen to Me Happened-prong collar separated

I had read on a well known product site about prong collars separating http://ift.tt/1FPLWNy releasing your dog to run free and I even had one trainer who insisted I add a choke chain and attach both to my leash. I poo-poo'd it all thinking it would never happen to me. I have a good quality herm springer prong collar.

Well today I started out on our usual walk. My pup always starts our first dozen or so steps with great excitement, pulling a little but nothing extreme. Today was no different.

Well I looked across the street and slowed a little when I saw a surveyor running that little surveyor wheel down the street. He was enough ahead of us that I thought it would be fine but to be cautious I decided to go the opposite way. I hadnt even completed the thought when to my surpise my leash dropped to the ground and he was after the surveyor. I quickly shouted "he is friendly" worried the guy would freak. Luckily the guy was an angel and it all worked out fine.

And yes we work on recall but the pup in him still gets the best of us when he sees people or dogs because he wants to play.

Thought I would share my head in the sand mentality and lessoned learned in case others are thinking it wont happen to them. It just might!
