I really want to adopt a pit bull because they seem like great dogs, and so many of them are euthanized in shelters. I know they can be dog aggressive, and I would do tons of research on training before adopting. However, some pro-pit bull websites say that only experienced dog owners should get a pit bull because they need a firm hand. It seems to me that advice like that makes the problem of unwanted pit bulls worse by reinforcing the public perception that pit bulls are uniquely difficult and dangerous animals. Besides, don't all dogs need firm, consistent training?
Should a first-time dog owner get a pit bull?
