Gauge is 14 months old. I was not around for the first 8 months of his life. He was not properly socialized as a puppy. He had one weekend with one dog, one time and did fine. But he was only 5 months old at the time. I have been curious as to whether he would show any aggression if another dog was brought into the picture. My son's friend brought her 4 yr old doberman over tonight. She was on a leash as was Gauge. We let them sniff each other. Slick (doberman) would have been fine I think but Gauge tried snapping at her first thing. We kept them apart and no damage was done. Then Slick decided she wanted to sniff Gauge and I think she felt threatened because Gauge is highly active and was pulling at the leash. They acted aggressive to each other again. Never did we let them close enough once the growling and snarling began so I don't know if there really would have been any true aggression but I'm not willing to take the chance. I'm not sure if Gauge was trying to say "this is my turf" or if he truly doesn't want any other dog around. Is it too late to socialize him? If not, how should I continue from this point?
