Hello, my name's Raye and I went from having one beautiful pitbull puppy to having 5 with not enough knowledge on the difficulty of raising nor breeding her. I'm way in over my head and I realize my mistake so can we please skip the part where everyone tells me I'm an idiot and irresponsible back yard breader. Thanks.
So my 2 year old dog had her first litter of 4 puppies almost 3 weeks ago. Her delivery was long with the last puppy arriving 6 hours after the rest. Sadly she later ate that one, vet says the puppy was more than likely sick.
She has since been a great mother to the remaining three, until today when for reasons unknown she went downstairs and attacked our other female puppy who is about 4 months old. We had them separated but she somehow got into the area where we had been keeping the other dog.Note she was never aggressive with her until she had her puppies.
Shortly after that I heard her growling and one of her puppies screaming. When I went to check on them she had stopped growling but kept pulling at the pup sort of aggressively as if his screams were bothering her so we put her outside. The pup had a gash under his eye but I feel like if she was trying to kill him she could have been a lot more aggressive, but I don't know maybe it's not like that when dogs decide to kills their own pups.
So I called the vet and they said she may just bee stressed from the earlier altercation or she may have possibly realized she's not producing enough milk for all the pup. She advised me to keep then separated for a while then see if she had called down around them.
The whole time she was outside she was frantically crying and clawing at the doors to get in and looking through the window every time the puppies cried. 4 hours later we let her in, she starred cleaning the pups but when the injured one started to cry from her licking his face age git all tense again and started pulling at him no growling though.
So we separated them again, and I started trying to bottle feed which brings me to the point. I don't think it's going very successfully. I bought puppy milk and used some playtex bottles alot of the breeders online suggested but I don't feel like they are eating enough. I hadn't bought a scale to weigh them yet so i don't know exactly what they should be eating but altogether since I started trying the two boys have eaten less than a half an ounce combined and the girl ate almost an ounce. She was the only one who seemed interested in being bottle fed but in the 12 hours since this ordeal began 1oz seems like hardly enough. Although they all seem content. They've been sleeping and aren't whining at all.
Please help, I don't know if I should go buy puppy bottles for a better flow or what I really don't want them to die.
I guess the point of me giving the background was in hopes that someone would tell me my sweet dog wasn't trying to viciously harm Her baby. As I type this she is downstairs whaling from being separated from her pups. I feel so terrible =(
