Long term steroid treatment and behavior

mardi 23 septembre 2014

So I am posting this question because of my sister's 1 year old Boxer and I was hoping to see if anyone here has had a similar experience. He was diagnosed with necrotizing myositis 2 months ago, it's pretty rare and the treatment is very "wait and see." So they put him on prednisone for at least 6 months, best case scenario being that he comes off of it by 6 months. They are currently lowering the dose minimally every 2 weeks, and as long as none of the symptom return will continue to do so. I know that steroids can alter behavior sometimes, but my question is for anyone who has been in a similar situation has the behavior disappeared once the steroids were stopped?

He is definitely more "moody" now, and he is getting a little aggressive with the 4 year old female when he has had enough of her trying to initiate play. They are kept separate when there is no one home to supervise so we are not worried about anything happening then. I did, however, witness his aggression towards her a few days ago and I told my sister she should probably be more vigilant when they are together from now on.
