I recently adopted a 2 year old male blue pit from a co-worker who moved to a neighborhood that zones and couldn't take him with her. im looking for some pointers on how to teach this new guy some manners I have been working with him for 2 weeks now, and only knows how to sit, and it seems like progress is very slow. I reward good behavior and try to ignore bad behavior altogether. I have a 6 month old heeler/border collie cross, and a 9 month old blue tick coon hound. All dogs get along great.
This pit seems to cower when he thinks he's in trouble, and overall doesn't respond quickly to training. I seems to seek any for of attention he can get he never leaves my side, and I'm always tripping over him, car rides entail a 50 lb dog trying to sit in my lap (even worse when you drive a standard). He is extremely clingy. If he's not on my feet he's trying to jump up on me (I've almost got the jumping fixed) or trying to crawl on my lap or trying to lick me ect...For instance he jumps on the bed, it takes at least 5 or 6 times of making him get off the bed until he finally realizes we won't let him stay. I think the previous owner let him get away with anything, and he seems to also be anxious and slow to learn
Any tips on how to build this guy's confidence, and teach him some manners?
