Veronica is 8 - which I cannot believe.
We are now monitoring 5 lumps, bumps & warts. She has a growth/wart on her elbow - not at all concerned about it. She has a redish tiny (couple millimeters round thing on her neck) - vet & derm say "warty". She has a discoloration on her lip going from the ridge to the inside that is pure white and looks weird. Derm says "discoloration"? She has a small (maybe a little over an inch) lump (feels soft and moves) in her right fat skirt - which vet says "feels like folded over fat - just watch it). For about a month I couldn't find it - then I found it again - didn't seem to grow - no idea why I couldn't find it.
A couple of days ago I noticed a lump that freaked me out - right on the end of her sternum - felt hard and immovable; but the vet aspirated it and said she didn't see any cancer cells or cells of concern - only saw 3 fat cells so not enough to call it a fatty tumor - and 1 bacteria cell which she said wasn't a problem (currently she's on antibiotics for a bacterial infection of the vulva). Vet said it probably felt immovable because of it's position and maybe attached to the sternum. After more feeling around it's doesn't feel quite as hard or immovable as it did when I first felt it and panicked.
So everything is on "wait and see" - which drives me crazy as I don't do "wait and see" very well. We have an appointment in 3 weeks for a second opinion w/ the specialist/surgeon who did her leg - he also removed a fatty tumor and aspirated another - so I'm not quite clear how you can specialize in orthopedics AND oncology but apparently he is the "go to" guy at the e-vet - and I do really trust and have faith in his competence.
So other than just venting and whining - I'm wondering - is any one else dealing with this with older dogs? Is it common - because it's making me crazy. Our Basset had tons of fatty tumors from a young age and multiple surgeries - so you would think I would take this in stride - but her last surgery was cancer - which she eventually passed from - and I lost my dad to cancer a year before our dog of 14 years passed - so this sort of stuff just sends me into a panic.
