My question is about city vs county bans on breeds. The town that I live in passed a pit bull ban back in 2007. I haven't lived there long at all, but my fiance has. He actually had one of our pit bulls before this city ordinance was passed, so he was grandfathered in as an exception as long as we keep her registered at city hall. We are planning to purchase a home in the town, but are leary because of the ban. We now have 3 pit bulls, two of which are not registered with the city hall becasue they were not grandfathered in.
The county that we live in does not have a ban on any breeds. I was told that by the city not allowing the pit bull specifically, that they are violating an equality law? I would like to petition our city council to have the ordinance omitted. Any ideas where I should start and the process I will need to go through?
