After doing a quick google search on the topic "my dog killed cat" I came across this forum.
Here's my story:
I work in the veterinary industry. I have a handful of cats & dogs. Every once and awhile we will get a phone call from the shelter or an adoption agency. They will ask us to foster an animal while they search to find them a home. If we refuse then the animal is put to sleep.
Well we get a call from one of these adoption agencies that has a 5 year old female pitbull. They say she is a beautiful & sweet dog that deserves a home. But she has a cold and can't be placed with the other animals up for adoption. So they basically ask if I can watch her for a week or two while she recovers from her cold. Then they will take her back and find her a home. If I said no then she was scheduled to be put to sleep the same day.
Of course I said yes. I've had her for a few days and she is a WONDERFUL dog. She's pretty much everything you could have hoped for. I had started thinking about adopting her myself.
This morning I let her outside with my other dogs and my cat (They all have gotten along so well).
A few moments later I hear my cat screaming and blood all over the pits face. I broke it up rather quickly, but the damage was done. He shattered my cats jaw & did some other damage.
I had to have my 10 year old cat put down, there was really nothing they could do for him.
My cat I loved very much is dead. I SCREWED UP, I'm not putting the blame on the dog really (Although I'm very pissed off lol). She's still a wonderful dog & I probably shouldn't have been so relaxed around her in such a short amount of time.
Of course I have to tell the adoption agency this (My work actually is the one that told them), and now they want her back ASAP. They are going to put her to sleep the moment I take her back.
I'm devastated that my cat is dead. But I'm also very aware that this dog is as good as dead as soon as I drop her off. She CAN NOT live with me and my other animals, but she also doesn't deserve to die.
I really don't know what I'm supposed to do.
