Hi, We recently have had a problem when my daughter takes her Heeler 8month old puppy out of the house without our 5month old Pit bull Atlas. He charges at the door and my daughter and Heeler pup as they are trying to get out of the door. It is the only time we have any type of acting out or tantrum problem with him, or any problem at all. He is very, very mild mannered and listens to commands on the first command. He is a cuddly moosh really and even with our other dogs shows respect and will actually wait his turn for treats, etc. BUT with this he gets really upset...barking, yelling and full weight and strength to try to break free from who ever is holding him back from trying to get out the door with them. He doesn't react like this when take our older female out and has no issues when we take him out without the other dogs.
I'm wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this reaction and if it is separation anxiety from his best buddy or if he wants to go out as well? He doesn't do this when anyone in the house leaves and when we have them all (we have 4 dogs) in the yard, he has no problem coming in the house, even when the others choose to stay out a little longer. We have always been a multiple dog household and have never had this reaction in any of our dogs before when trying to take one of the other dogs out for vet visit, etc.
At first I thought it was a one time thing and corrected it then it happened a few more times and today was his worst outburst. But as soon as the door closes and they are completely out of the door he goes about his business and doesn't act pouty or take it out on toys etc in a tantrum. I want to correct this behavior ASAP, but not sure what is the best way. I don't want to have to remove him or kennel him every time we need to take the Heeler out of the house unless that's the only option left to avoid his reaction. He is already 51lbs and just turned 5months yesterday, and he is already very strong, so I need to get this under control now. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!
