Hi,
I am new to being a pitbull parent. I know about plenty about the breed, but never had one as a pet. We adopted Lucy a little under two months ago. She is a 50 lb blue nose female about 11 months old. She was a rescue (our last dog was also a rescue). She was tied up to a pole and left, when a kind lady found her and saved her. She had Lucy for about two months, cared for her, and trained her. She was at first very scared of a collar, and leash. She does not mind collars at all, and is okay with a leash. But she hates walks. Unless we bike with her, she will stop and sit about half way down the street. But that is not our main concern, since we can get to walk with a bike.
Our main concern is her nervousness. I have been home since we adopted her, but I am about to go back to work. She gets very upset whenever I leave for long periods of time. She will dig in the garden, otherwise she is not a digger, and will chew on any and all wood stuff in the yard. She loves wood and plastic. She already chewed off her jingle bell collar during Thanksgiving when we where away all day. She seems to get the most nervous when we are away after dark. That's when she will poop or pee in the house. And this morning she peeped before she walked down the hall, because she was nervous about getting into trouble.
She is a sweetheart of a dog, loves people, loves other dogs. But she has a nervous and fearful temperment, that we (it is me, my husband, and 7 years old son in the house), are not used to dealing with.
Any help and suggestions would be wonderful.
Thank you
